One of the greatest Romanian men of culture founder of the Romanian printing press in Transylvania, president of ASTRA, founding member of the Romanian Academy, historian.

Born in Cluj County, he lived most of his life in Brasov.

In Sibiu he lived since 1878. He published in Sibiu the 'Observatorul' newspaper.

Died in Sibiu and he is buried in the small cemetery around the church called 'Dintre Brazi'.
