"Samuel von Brukenthal" High School

It was erected on the former location of an old school which is attested in documents starting with the 14th century.
The stone portal bears the inscription “Eruditioni virtutia exemplis sacra”. At the interior, the imposing stair of honor (in two directions) stands out, ensuring the communication with a large hall situated at the first floor. From here, a corridor starts in two directions, on the longitudinal axle of the building, towards which the classes open. In the center there is a festive hall, erected on the level of two stories, on both sides of the hall adorned with tribunes with beautiful wooden handrails. The handrails of the tribune and the high quality woodwork of the central rostrum, which imitate an architectural construction with an interrupted arcade, decorated with Baroque garlands and urns, were restored in 1981. Among the architectural elements at the interior we also notice: the corridor at the ground floor paved with natural stone and the semi – cylindrical arches with penetrations.
Nicolaus Olahus, Michael Hissmann (professor at the University of Göttingen), the county administrator of the German population Sachs von Harteneck, Samuel von Brukenthal, General Artur Arz von Straussenburg, Dr. Albert Klein, Dr. Romulus Candea (rector of the University in Cernauti), Emil Sigerus, Julius Bieltz, Dr. Gustav Gündisch, etc. were among the students who attended the high school.
