House at no. 16, Large Square
The 15th – 18th century (1582, 1652); transformed in the 20th century
The house is called Weidner Reusner Czekelius after the name of its owners.
The main portal repeats the motif met at the Haller residence, but at the center, it displays the coat of arms of Mayor Johann Reussner junior. The coat of arms is accompanied by the inscription “1652” and the monogram EN (Elias Nicolai). The portal in itself is at least 100 years older.
In the passage of the gate there is another sculpted stone door frame. In the center of the entablement there is a tab shaped like a widened shield with a rounded pointer, charged with the cipher CW (Czirves - Servatius - Weidner jun.) and accompanied by the year 1582.
The right hand side where there is the portal, belonged to the Weidner family and then to senator Johann Reussner junior, wing D entering subsequently, in the 15th century, in the property of the Czekelius family. The present day house, which in 1875 was composed of two buildings with two separate administrative numbers, is composed of seven bodies. The construction underwent essential alterations during the 20th century, the ground floor being transformed in a chain of stores.
