no. 10, Large Square
the 15th – 16th century; the 20th century
The Haller House, built in a Renaissance style, preserves many elements from the original building dating from the 15th – 16th century such as the portal with the coat of arms, the arched entrance and the decorations. In time, the house belonged to several local personalities:
Around 1475 the house was in the property of Hyeronimus Schneider, then its owner was Michael Gereb, around 1490 it belonged to Johannes Agatha, Szervatius Holzschuch, and since 1524 its owner was Michael Altemberger. In 1537 Michael Altemberger sells the house to Petrus Haller who kept it in the family for 354 years. Petrus Haller transformed the prior gothic building, rendering it its nowadays Renaissance aspect.
The access in the gate’s passage is made through a portal with a semi-circular frame in its superior part. The upright frames are composed of a column equipped with a Corinthic column head. The tympanum of the arch is decorated with trophies executed in relief. Entablement with the cornice leaning on a frieze of dentils and in the axle – the coat of arms of Petrus Haller. Above, there is a pediment in the center of which there appears a circular medallion with the portrait of a warrior seen from the profile. In the courtyard, on the left side one may seen the dwelling tower preserved from the original building in a gothic style as well as a border included in the wall, in the arched passage way.
